I was sitting at a red light trying to turn left onto a 5 lane road. It had been misting rain and the roads were wet. A guy in a paper thin honda passport to my right was trying to turn into the complex I was coming out of. A 76 ford truck was coming to my left. The honda starts going and his tires start spinning. I thought"You are never going to make it" Well the ford hits his passenger rear side to which I said" I told you stupid you wouldnt make it" I raised my hand to push the red emergency button when in slow motion he started heading toward me. I then thought" Well just cause I called you stupid is no reason to come hitting me!"I also thought" I had a nose job 2 months ago and if you mess up my new nose Im going to beat the crap out of you! Well he slammed into me ramming me into the air and slamming back down on the ground. The car called outfor help before I knew it. I had some whip lash and back aches from tightening up waiting for him to hit me. And for those that would say well you had a cell phone. Yes I did which was broken in 3 pieces when he hit me. Alot of good that did me. Onstar got help for us all and called my family to come get me. NO cell phone will do that! Thank you onstar we will always keep a vehicle with it and keep it activated! GUIDOTTI Wed, 17 Mar 2010 07:16:36 +0000 http://onstarconnections.com/?p=2429#comment-151 This happened a number of years ago,I had just bought a Buick Rendezvous and that day I was in a funeral procession, the river was up almost on the highway and just when I looked down to find out our speed which was about thirty to forty miles a hour (we were still in town and the speed limit was 40 miles per hour) someone up ahead slowed down to look at the high water and I rear ended the car in front which hit the car ahead.My airbags came on and almost immediately a woman from ONSTAR asked me if I was hurt,I replied No the airbags took all the shock but the carr in front took a hard hit and the people needed medical attention that was when the trunk of the car I rear ended flew up and I could see a fire starting from shorted out brake lights,I jumped out of my car saying more to myself than anyone.. My God the trunk of the car is starting to burn. The woman on ONSTAR heard my words as I ran forward and grabbed the shorted out wires which were just above the gas tank and somehow without burning myself except for a few small blisters I jerked the out and put out the fire then I yelled at the people in the car get out now your trunk was burning and it could start up again, six people came out of the car,one of them was on oxygen with a tank, of course onlookers from the near by houses were milling around and I had to run them off in case of a gasoline fire or explosion,within minutes a fire truck with foam from a small city six miles away arrived and proceeded to spray down the trunk as a precaution,thanks to the ONSTAR woman who heard me say the trunk of the car ahead was on fire and she immediately called for a ambulance and the foam fire truck, they had already left with the injured people,none of who,thank god, were injured seriously,everything was under control before the police arrived and later explaining the accident,I remarked if it wasn't for ONSTAR and if that fire got out of control with all the passengers inside one with a oxygen tank and the fire directly over the gas tank our town would have been on CNN if the gas tank went and the oxygen tank followed at least twent y or more people would have been burned alive in a funeral procession no less....to say ONSTAR saved the day is a understatement and the woman from ONSTAR who heard me cry out to myself ,My God the wires in the trunk have shorted out and they're flaming deserves a citation for exceptional work as she picked up my words after I was nearly out of my car (and I was by no means talking to her) heading for the source and she reacted in what can only be described as heroric...Thank You...PS... traded off the Buick after the accident,it was made in mexico and bought me a SRX caddy with ONSTAR and telephone service besides XM radio,my sister was looking to buy a new car soon after my accident and since she is widowed and often drives a long distance to see her boy who is a captain in the police force of the city he works at I warned her if she didn't get ONSTAR and the telephone service I would give her so much hell her life would be miserable...Footnote she had both in the Pontiac Montana she bought and she loves it so much she tells everyone she knows who in the market for a new car that "ONSTAR" and their telephone service is the very best investment anyone can make because you don't have to take your eyes off the road to call and talk to someone and in case of a accident to yourself or a accident you witness you can call it in and have the necessary rescue vehicles on the spot within minutes....Said to much ..Post was to long but just telling it like it is....Live Long ..Live Happy... They misjudged the distance, and were turned around. they slid from the left all the way to the right, then proceeded to come back through traffic, and over the embankment flipping three times in the process.Fortunately we were all able to stop . We were on a busy street in a fast pace area of town. We heard the accident before we saw it! But ahead of us was a bad accident! I immediatly push the red onstar button & got a person right away. I explained what had just happened, but wasn't sure of the side street name. Onstar was able to get my location and figure out which side street we had passed. Then Onstar called the local police (on 3-way) and got help for the people in the accident quickly!! She then thanked us for being such good samaritans!! Thank You Onstar!!!!! Usually, we visit about one or twice a month - as our goddaughter lives there with her grandmother. Mostly, whenever we visit, we travel down on the freeway, and come across the main town on a U.S. route, and then the last 5 miles or so, by local road. This one occasion, we decided, as we have plenty of time to get home - and OnStar to get us out of trouble if ever we got lost - to take a backroads route home, over the mountains. We hadn't travelled perhaps 15 miles, when, on this straight stretch of road with good visibility, came across a car which had emerged from a junction on our left - about 500 yards ahead, and turning towards us. It quickly picked up speed, but remained on our side of the road - the driver looking down, not expecting to meet anyone on this quiet road. I said to myself, "he'll pull over, give him a little time," but he didn't seem to budge. finally, with about 50 feet left, I sound my horn, flashed my headlights and started to brake - he missed us by about 10 feet, and kept driving. My wife and I were shaken up, and I brought the car to a complete halt. I hit the trusty OnStar button, hearing the familiar sound as it connected, and got a really nice operator the other end - she gave us the news that turn-by-turn navigation was unavailable in that area, but she would be happy to talk us through getting back to "civilization" until it was available once more. There hasn't been a day after that that I haven't been glad that I continue to have the service - even though we don't use it as much as we did when we first got the car - it's a real lifesaver - just for peace of mind!
