“I was in a front end collision on 3/17/10. I was contacted by Edwina from Onstar instantly , she verified that we had been in an accident and that we needed help. I will never own a vehicle without Onstar again. In fact, I bought a used Trailblazer this week to replace the Envoy, and it has Onstar. Thanks for being there for me.”

“In December 2007, I finally received a called from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. I had been on a waiting list for a double lung tansplant. At that time, I was on 10 liters of oxygen (even resting) just to survive. I only had two portable tanks full. Each one would last only about 35 or 40 minutes. They told me I had only a little over an hour to get to the hospital which is 80 miles from my house.

When we got about 30 miles down the interstate (which was under construction at the time) we hit grid locked traffic. People were actually out of their cars walking around. Someone came by and told us that there was a wreck up ahead with fatalities and we could be stuck there for hours. Panic set in. I knew I only had enough oxygen for a little over an hour. Then I said to my husband, ‘Hey, remember ya’ll made me keep that OnStar deal? I have never used it, but I think you just press this button. Let’s give it a try.’

We did and the OnStar operator came on and ask us what we needed. We explained the situation. She contacted the Coweta county law enforcement. They told us to sit in the car and just keep blinking our lights until they found us. OnStar remained on the line along with the Coweta County officers.

They found us, maneuvered the traffic to get us to the left shoulder, and escorted us through the scene of the accident and sent us on our way. About two miles downthe road…….Grid locked traffic AGAIN !!! OnStar was still on the line along with the police. They found us again and escorted us through yet another accident. In the mean time, OnStar had contacted my transplant team to let them know the situation. She also contacted the Atlanta area law enforcement. Now everybody was involved. The transplant team would ask where we were. I would tell them ‘I don’t know’. OnStar would then respond by telling our exact location and would let them know about how many minutes it would be until we arrived at the emergency room. The translant team said the would give me until 6:00 am to arrive. Escorted down the interstate, we finally made it to the hospital. I looked at the clock on the wall as we checked in. It was 6:02. We had made it just in time. OnStar had remained on line with us until we arrived at the hospital. THANK YOU !! If it had not been for OnStar, there is no doubt in my mind that we would have never made it there in time. With out this transplant I would not have made it much longer. I am now very healthy, happy, and active. I still am driving my 2005 Trailblazer. When and if I ever get a new car, it most definitly include OnStar. THANK YOU, ONSTAR !!!!!!!!”

If it weren’t for you, the person who hit us would have gotten away without having to pay our hospital and doctor bills. I don’t remember the ladies name who ws on the line with us, but I commend her and the speed with which things were handeled. I tell everyone, the commercials are true. You stayed with us until the end, and once again we really appreciate all you did for us.”

“While traveling home from FL & only a half hour from home we had no alternative but to run head on into a large tire that was sitting in the middle of the Interstate. I immediately called OnStar emergency. Spoke with a very concerned representative who took all info, checked to see if we were injured & notified the state police. Within three minutes at the most the state police where there to assist us. The OnStar rep offered to stay on the line until the police arrived, but I thanked him & said no need since we were not injured. We thank the representative for an outstanding job. When we talk about OnStar to our friends we call you 5 STAR.”

"She was very helpful and guided me in the right direction in order to answer my questions and concerns. She even went above and beyond and suggested"

“I placed a call to OnStar from my vehicle on 2 March 2010 at approximately 8:50 pm. I was inquiring about my subscription. I spoke with a representative named Judea. I just wanted her supervisors and co-workers to know that this was the most pleasant conversation that I had ever had with any telephone representative ever. She was very helpful and guided me in the right direction in order to answer my questions and concerns. She even went above and beyond and suggested further action that not only solved the problem at hand but also put money in my pocket.

I was calling to cancel my subscription that I had no idea that I was being billed for but upon calling, she pointed out to me that I was being billed not only for my subscription but also for the subscription on my fathers GMC Sierra as well. We purchased these vehicles within 2 months of each other and because of an error on the part of the dealer, I was being billed for both OnStar subscriptions when I should have been billed for only my subscription and my father should have been billed for his subscription. She did everything in her power to take care of this and I was not seeking a refund for the 2 months of service that I was unknowingly being billed for yet she suggested that I be refunded for those 2 months. I was astounded that she mentioned this because I would have simply cancelled my subscription and just accepted that I was billed for 2 months and not have even asked about a refund.

Because she offered this, I of course accepted the offer and was told to call back between 8 am and 8 pm the next business day to talk to the billing department, but now that I am thinking about the great service that I received, I will not be cancelling my subscription all because of the phenomenal service that was provided to me from Judea. I cannot say that all of my experiences with OnStar representatives have been this pleasant but Judea is a great member of your team and I just wanted to let you know this and hopefully I will be connected with her next time I need to contact OnStar. I recommend that Judea some how be compensated for the great service that she provided to me because not only did she make me change my mind as it pertains to cancelling my subscription, I will now recommend OnStar to all of my friends and relatives who will be purchasing an OnStar equipped vehicle in the future.

Once again, Judea is a great asset to your company and she should be rewarded for this. Thank you.”

“On Nov. 20, 2009 at approx.. 8pm, I went to a Cabelas store in Owatonna Mn. When arriving in the parking lot, I was attacked by a drunk, after breaking my cell phone and severely beating me, I managed to push the red Onstar button.

The advisor came on and asked my emergency, my response was I was being beaten to near death. The drunk kept trying to turn the Onstar off on me. Being I already spoke to the advisor, I was certain that she would send the police and she did. Four squads showed up and saved me, than I was takin to the hospital where my mother of 38 yrs didnt even know that it was me. Thats how bad I looked.

That Friday night the Onstar advisor SAVED my life and because of her fast response, took a drunk off the roads. I want to say THANK YOU and that I will always subscribe to Onstar. That advisor not only saved my life, but that of many others on the roads that night. The drunk ended up in jail for assault and dwi. Again, THANK YOU for such professional reactions and for sending the police.”

As an OnStar Emergency Advisor, Sherwin Broome is specially trained to assess any type of emergency situation and get the right help to those in need as quickly as possible.

As an OnStar Emergency Advisor, Sherwin Broome is specially trained to assess any type of emergency situation and get the right help to those in need as quickly as possible. It’s a high-pressure job that requires a cool head. And that describes Sherwin perfectly.

“I’m pretty laid back, so when I come to work and I’m faced with a life- threatening emergency, I’m better able to handle the situation without getting overly excited,” he says. “A lot of calls we get are from people who are, of course, very upset because of the emergency situation that they are in, and you have to be able to calm them down before you can help them. You have to be a good listener so you can assess the situation and determine what needs to be done. I try to put myself in their situation, to empathize with what they’re going through and think of what I would want done for me if I was the one on the other end of call.”

One of the Automatic Crash Response situations he handled last winter is a great example of his poise in action. Sherwin received a call on his screen from the vehicle. There was no voice response initially — the driver had been knocked unconscious. Sherwin immediately contacted 911. He knew the vehicle was off the road in a deep ravine in or near a body of water. By using satellite imaging, he was able to tell emergency responders exactly where the vehicle was located.

To find out more about Sherwin Broome and what it’s like to be an OnStar Emergency Advisor, watch the video below.

I’m currently an Emergency and Crisis Assist Advisor and have been with OnStar for nine and a half years. During crises like hurricanes, floods and forest fires, I help our customers with their particular situations.

I’m currently an Emergency and Crisis Assist Advisor and have been with OnStar for nine and a half years. During crises like hurricanes, floods and forest fires, I help our customers with their particular situations. Let’s say during a hurricane when a city is being evacuated — I help them get out of the city and direct them to hotels, food and gas. Basically, whatever they need, we make sure they get it.

One instance I remember vividly was during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Some folks contacted us who were in a desperate situation. They were trying to get people out of a hospital, which was located in a pretty rough area. Since they had heard some gunshots they were concerned about their safety. We contacted the local police and explained the situation. We helped the two parties get together so they could coordinate their efforts. As a result, the folks helped get the people who were in the hospital to safety.

Another situation that occurred during Hurricane Katrina was when the city was being evacuated. The line of cars heading out of New Orleans was sometimes as long as five or six miles. The wait was so long that some people were starting to run out of gas. We were in touch with our subscribers and directed them to gas stations that still had gas available. We also told them when gas would be delivered to certain stations nearby.

And about six months ago, during the forest fires in California, one of our subscribers was in an area that was just about to be hit. We gave him an evacuation route and directions to where he needed to go. We stayed on the phone with him the whole time and talked to him all along the way until he reached his destination. Those are the stories you always remember.

This job is so rewarding. I just love the fact that I’m there to help our subscribers out of their crises. It’s so satisfying being able to get them to safe locations, out of harm’s way.
