"Onstar worked where cell phones wouldn’t"
Marsha Terry’s story:
“Onstar worked where cell phones wouldn’t. I was riding my motorcycle and headed into Death Valley National Park when I took a curve too fast and went off the road. I was injured and bleeding and needed help yet no one’s cell phone would work. A memory that stays with me the most was a gentleman yelling “push the damn button.” I heard him explain to my husband the “damn button” was Onstar. His wife had stayed in their SUV and pressing the Onstar button to get me the help I needed. I couldn’t hear her response but I remember him saying to my husband help is on the way. I could feel the relief in all those around me. A short time later the National Park ambulance arrived and packed me up for delivery to the Furnace Creek airport and an express ride via helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas. Today I own a vehicle that has Onstar. The day I bought my truck I told the salesman my story. He asked permission to use it when talking with other customers. I was very happy to give my permission since to me Onstar isn’t one of those cute-sie gadgets. It actually saves lives and precious time in emergencies.”

I have found that On Star works everywhere mobile phones work, and a long list of places where mobile phones don’t work. And On Star is truly hands free, unlike mobile phones. There’s also no radiation load to one’s head, which there is when using a mobile phone with or without Bluetooth headset technology!
Law enforcement professionals should get behind On Star, and lobby to have it installed in their patrol vehicles so they can have hands free communication, as well as a back up to their dispatch based systems. They should also encourage On Star’s success nationwide as a way of reducing distracted driving related accidents.
Great technology On Star. Rock on.

Nearly everything that’s bought or sold usually has some detractors out there. I’ve had OnStar in two GMC vehicles for over 6 years and I have never, ever heard anyone bash OnStar. Amazing. I am one of those typical males who rarely uses it for anything but reporting an engine light. However, knowing it’s there for emergencies just like the one in this story is one of the main reasons I wouldn’t go without it. Our two GMC’s both have it but my 2008 Lexus GS350 has no similar device. Imagine that!?
From the horror stories that I’ve heard about OnStar? I’m never going near one.
There’s a reason why law enforcement doesn’t rely on OnStar.
Hi Delilah, I’m sorry if you heard horror stories, we have a lot of subscribers who love the service like Alice Koone who we helped to save her life http://onstarconnections.com/2010/04/onstar-helps-transplant-patient. Law enforcement does rely on OnStar and came to us asking how OnStar could help stop high speed pursuits, giving the birth to Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. Take a look around this site, there’s a lot of great success stories that might change your mind.
